Dr. Tim Lake is a composer, teacher, and expert banjo player from Lexington, KY. Tim received a doctorate in music in 1991 from the University of Kentucky. In 1993, he performed and recorded the world premiere of his doctoral work, "An American Concerto For 5-String Banjo And Orchestra," with the Atlanta-Emory Orchestra in Atlanta, Georgia. Thursday May 8th @ 8pm Planet D Nonet
Planet D Nonet Jazz::Old Time Swing::Big Band
The Planet D Nonet was founded by RJ Spangler and James O'Donnell in 2007. Both men are lifelong eastsiders and they have been playing together for over 30 years ago. A typical Planet D Nonet gig might involve very early jazz from Louis Armstrong or Mezz Mezzrow, Duke Ellington & Fletcher Henderson charts from the '30's, proto-Detroit R&B from Paul "Huckelbuck" Williams, King Porter or Todd Rhodes or space-age jazz from Sun Ra. The PD9 can play a swing dance or a concert performance. Whatever they do, they always have a Detroit twist. The Planet D Nonet is about swing, blues, space-age jazz and classic American songs all served with plenty of good humor with an eye toward turning people onto this kind of music. It is important that people experience this music live and in person.
