Theatre::Dramatic Farce The Balagula Theatre closes out its 2012/13 Season with "The Trial of God (as it was held on February 25, 1649, in Shamgorod)" by Elie Wiesel about a fictitious trial calling God as the defendant. Three wandering minstrels arrive at an inn in the city of Shamgorod on the eve of Purim, a holiday which is replete with disguises and secrets, and which commemorates the defeat of a genocidal plan against the Jewish people. Unbeknownst to the three wanderers, a devastating pogrom has killed all of the city's Jews except for Berish the innkeeper, and two others. A decision is made to hold a trial of God, and a defender needs to be found. Singer/Songwriter::Americana Award winning Roots singer-songwriter Kiya Heartwood's new solo CD, Bold Swimmer delivers "soulful confessions, political broadside and a wicked groove". Bold Swimmer was produced by Grammy nominated producer, Mark Hallman, who is known for his work with Elisa Gilkyson, Ani Difranco, Oasis and others. Heartwood's musical influences include Bonnie Raitt, Richard Thompson, Bruce Cockburn and Cheryl Wheeler. Most Kentuckians know Kiya as the lead singer and songwriter for the Arista rock band Stealin Horses. Kiya tours nationally and internationally as a solo artist and with the duo Wishing Chair.
