The Lee Street Backsliders were formed when Arnold L. Farr (The Backslider) a solo performer joined forces with Caroline Buchanan and Colin Smith. Farr is a singer/songwriter who was raised singing with his brothers in the south. The group performs covers of other artist as well as originals that were written by Farr. Their covers that include songs by Sam Cooke, Bob Dylan, Toni Childs, Tracy Chapman, The Animals, John Lennon, and others. Their originals cover every aspect of the human condition from love to social justice, to comedy. Several of their comedy songs have become crowd favorites, songs such as "Thick", "Skinny", and "Practicing for You". Farr's singing is rooted in the blues, soul, and gospel tradition. The Lee Street Backsliders is Lexington's new Rock & Soul band with blues, folk, and funk sensibilities and gospel conviction behind the vocals.
